The Expolanka Group celebrated as two of their companies won recognition at the National Business Excellence Awards (NBEA) 2009. The competition was held for the sixth consecutive year to recognize business organizations that contribute significantly to the Socio Economic Development of the country while adopting exemplary business practices. The Awards have become known as a prestigious overall benchmark amongst the business community. A rigorous technical evaluation precedes the final selection of the winners by an independent panel of judges.
The Awards distinguish the winners with enhanced recognition by the business community, foreign diplomatic mission and the Sri Lankan Government. Top management teams of the winning companies receive preferential status from the Department of Immigration and Emigration in issuing the special category of passports called "Passport for commercially important persons". Overseas Diplomatic Missions too, give preference to the winners in issuing visas and promotion in their countries.
The Expolanka companies who were singled out with these prestigious awards are Bio Extracts (Pvt) Ltd which won a Merit Award in the category - Manufacturing - Others and Expack Corrugated Cartons (Pvt) Ltd which won a Silver Award in the same category.
The presentation ceremony followed by a gala dinner was held at the Colombo Hilton on November 26th, 2009.
